Black Dog Running is a lyrical exploration of filmmaker Scott ray Becker’s recovery from clinical depression (the Black Dog) through his relationship with his ailing father, an old dog and an artist with developmental disabilities.

The short documentary blends personal essay observations and cinema verite revelations with unexpected humor to convey a universal story of psychic struggle and human spirit.

The film shines an authentic light into an interior state of mind that effects millions of Americans.

Black Dog Running was conceived, written and principally shot by filmmaker Scott ray Becker over the past 7 years as he reestablished his life and film career after undergoing electro-convulsive shock therapy (E.C.T.) for treatment of a debilitating depression. During his subsequent rehabilitation at a residential treatment program in San Rafael, CA,
Mr. Becker developed the narrative thread for this project.
